L-Arginine is a natural amino acid which during the process of digestion is converted into nitric oxide and released in blood stream. L-Arginine is found in beef, poultry, pork, seafood, etc. Even vegetarian foods such as wheat flour, wheat germ, oatmeal, chickpeas, granola, peanuts and so on contain L-Arginine.  When your body does not contain amino acid in its sufficient quantity, it becomes essential to take supplements and that is how L-Arginine supplements can help.

Benefits of L-Arginine

The primary benefit of L-Arginine is that it can bring about protein synthesis. This process is of utmost importance in the body because proteins are required for a variety of purposes such as muscle growth, muscle repair, bone and tendon formation and so on.  The L-Arginine supplements can bring about the same benefits. It can also enhance the production of growth hormones which helps in the rebuilding of muscles and also helps to enlarge muscles after a rigorous exercise regimen. L-Arginine also has positive effects on immunity and can also reduce the time taken for recovering from injuries. That is why L-Arginine is very popular with sportspersons as they tend to get injured more often and with the help of these supplements, they can recover fast and get back to the game sooner.

L-Arginine vs L-Citrulline

The supplements can also prevent build up of cortisol which is responsible for increased stress levels.

Also, L-Arginine has many clinically proven benefits as well. Nitric oxide allows the blood vessels to relax and expand which bring about more blood supply to different parts of the body. This means more oxygen reaches the body parts including the muscles and this enable the muscles to grow well, and become stronger.

L-Arginine is used by doctors to treat many conditions such as surgeons using it to ensure blood delivery during surgeries and so on. Arginine does not work as well as L-Citrulline.

The working of L-Arginine Vs L-Citrulline

Both L-Arginine and L-Citrulline can increase the level of nitric oxide in the body. Some researchers in Germany found that when 3 gm of L-Citrulline was used, it produced L-Arginine but no nitric oxide. To understand the reason, it is necessary to understand the working of L-Arginine. What happens is that it is converted to a compound called as N-hydroxyl-arginine which is converted to L-citrulline on further oxidation. The process also releases nitric oxide.  Thus, both the compounds help in increasing nitric oxide in the body. Also, both the supplements can prevent the stress on arteries and prevent clogging. There are different opinions on the effectiveness though. Some studies suggest that it is L-Citrulline that is better when taken in a low dose. While some may suggest that a stack of the two is what will be more beneficial. To conclude, it can be said that both supplements can work in the similar way and to say that Arginine does not work as well as L-Citrulline seems to be a vague statement. If taken in the suggested dosage and with effective diet and exercise, both supplements can bring about the same effects.
